Beyond Books: Helping libraries to widen their service delivery
RISE is working with Libraries Connected to help libraries across Yorkshire and Humber identify and articulate the important work of its network members to regional decision makers to secure support and funding. The commission will show how libraries are diversifying their services, meeting new community needs and supporting a range of policy areas.
Some of these areas include helping to shift healthcare from hospitals to communities, teaching people digital literacy and supporting children and families with pre-literacy skills including speech, language and communication development.
“If you’ve not been down to your library in a while, you may be surprised to see how they have changed,” observed RISE director Matt Baker. “Yes, they are still places of learning and books take pride of place. But they are fast becoming dynamic community hubs that are future facing, modern and rooted in local needs.”
